It is a violation of the law to provide a certificate on an unapproved or altered form or to include information on a certificate that purports to alter or expand coverage. It is also a violation of the law to request such a certificate.
The purpose of this portal is to provide information to the Department regarding requests for improper certificates on the part of certificate holders and regarding the providing of improper certificates by insurance agents and companies.
The Department will use the information received to identify entities engaging in practices that are not compliant with the law and to ascertain the nature of the violations. The Department will use the information received in communicating with entities engaging in noncompliant practices and educating them on the requirements of the law.
Such information will not necessarily be used in enforcement actions suspension of licenses, fines, or other disciplinary measures. However, complaints received through this portal could result in such actions. Fines can be up to $5,000 for each violation of the law.
Making a Complaint
If you would like to make a complaint against someone who may be violating the Georgia certificate law or regulation, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please include the following information in the email:
• Your name and contact information (e.g. email address and phone number);
• Name of the acting in violation of the law;
• The specific details regarding that violation;
• Dates of the violations; and
• Documents (if any) which provide evidence that an entity may be operating in violation of the law.
